Kuwait’s army said its air defences were working to intercept drones fired towards its territory, the first reported in the Gulf yesterday as the ceasefire between Iran and the US entered its second day.
“The air defences of the Armed Forces are currently facing hostile drone attacks that have penetrated the country’s airspace, targeting several vital installations,” the army posted on X, citing the defence ministry spokesperson.
This comes despite a recently announced two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, brokered by Pakistan.
Continued attacks across the region have raised questions about the durability and scope of the truce, with multiple reports of drone and missile strikes despite the agreement.
On Wednesday, Kuwait’s interior ministry reported ‘severe material damage’ at several vital facilities of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and the energy and water resources ministry after an Iranian drone attack.
The ministry said fires broke out in some of the attacked sites, which it said include oil facilities and three power stations and water desalination plants.
