The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Land Transport and Postal Affairs Under-Secretary Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen remotely chaired the ninth meeting of the GCC Railway Authority Board, as part of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the GCC.
Ms Al Dhaen highlighted the importance of the GCC railway project as a strategic initiative that enhances Gulf economic integration and supports sustainable development paths. She also noted the importance of continuing co-ordination among member states to accelerate progress and move to advanced operational stages in line with international best practices.
“The project represents a key pillar in developing the regional transport system by providing safe and efficient transport options that facilitate the movement of people and goods, and strengthens logistical connectivity among GCC countries,” she said.
“This contributes positively to supporting intra-GCC trade and improving the efficiency of supply chains, underlining the kingdom’s keenness to contribute effectively to the success of this vital project and to enhance its long-term sustainability,” she added.
The board discussed key topics related to the progress of the GCC railway project, including a review of the outcomes of the meetings of the transport ministers, and follow-up on developments regarding the general agreement for linking GCC countries to the project. It also reviewed the progress report on implementation and operations, as well as updates on the project’s operational plan.
It also addressed the authority’s periodic reports and financial aspects, in addition to a number of organisational matters related to the development of its work.
