Bahrain continues to develop its public transport system and enhance its sustainability, in line with the world’s best practices, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said yesterday, marking the World Public Transport Day.
“The public transport network has witnessed significant development. It now includes more than 600 bus stops and covers a distance exceeding 39,500km daily across 26 routes. More than 116 million passengers have been transported since its redevelopment in 2015 through March 2026,” he noted.
“This clearly indicates the growing reliance on public transport and the community’s confidence in its efficiency,” he affirmed.
The public transport system has proven its ability to continue operating under various conditions, as buses maintained high-efficiency service despite the recent Iranian attacks, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to serving the community, he stressed.
The system recorded an operational rate of 80 per cent in March 2026, with a total of 782,931 trips and a daily average of 25,256 trips, contributing to ensuring the continuity of people’s mobility and meeting their daily needs, he added.
