ASIAN BEACH GAMES – Bahrain’s delegation members who departed from the kingdom for Sanya, China, ahead of next week’s start to the sixth Asian Beach Games arrived yesterday at their destination.
The kingdom’s team transited through Doha, Qatar, where they stayed one night before continuing on their journey to East Asia.
Following their arrival, the athletes settled into the Bahraini mission’s residence in the athletes’ village.
The team in Sanya is headed by chef de mission and BOC executive director of operations Ahmed Abdulghaffar, along with deputy chef de mission and BOC Arab and international relations head Maryam Mardana.
They, along with administrative team member Hasan Juma, participated in a meeting with local officials to register Bahrain’s participating delegation members, in preparation for the start of competitions.
Bahrain are set to compete in four sports in this year’s Asian Beach Games, including 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach wrestling, and open water swimming.
The 3x3 basketball team, composed of Bogdan Dragovic, Milos Supica, Nasser Al Mosawi, and Austin Ajukwa, departed Sanya for Guangzhou to hold a mini training camp ahead of the start of their tournament on April 25.
They are part of a 20-athlete squad who will be flying the kingdom’s flag and going for gold in the multi-sport event, which also features competition in beach soccer, beach kabaddi, beach athletics, dragon boat, jiu-jitsu, sailing, speed sports climbing, teqball, aquathlon triathlon, and beach volleyball.
