Dr Hussain Al Meer has been re-elected as chairman of the Private Healthcare Institutions Owners’ Society.
The society held its recent ordinary general assembly at the Bahrain Chamber in Sanabis to elect a new board for the 2026–2028 term.
Dr Abdulrahman Al Ghareeb was elected vice-chairman, Dr Mohammed Al Anzoor as secretary-general and MP Ahmed Al Salloom as treasurer.
Other board members are: Dr Lamia Al Mahmood, Dr Jalal Kamal, Aqeel Al Madhoob, Dr Khulood Al Durazi and Dr Taqi Al Sabah.
Dr Al Meer said that the society aims to attract all private healthcare institutions across Bahrain to better assess the needs of the private medical sector and establish specialised committees supported by new expertise.
“These efforts are designed to support the government’s direction towards strengthening medical tourism, while also introducing joint programmes for continuing medical education within private healthcare facilities and enhancing the competence of medical and healthcare professionals,” he added.
“Many private healthcare institutions are facing rising operational costs compared to previous years, while seeking to maintain affordable service prices for patients.
“The society is working to propose practical solutions that preserve service quality, alongside close co-ordination with relevant government entities responsible for licensing, regulation and supervision of healthcare services.”
He explained that among the key initiatives under study is the introduction of a unified procurement mechanism to reduce costs through collective purchasing, as well as efforts to assist struggling healthcare institutions to merge in order to lower operational expenses.
“In the area of medical training and continuing education, we have outlined a future plan to offer periodic free foundational courses for members of the private healthcare sector, in co-ordination with partner associations and in co-operation with government authorities and ministries concerned with professional education and development.”
