Istanbul- The parliamentary delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in a meeting of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs, held as part of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul.
The session addressed reviewing the United Nations Charter and enhancing the organisation’s effectiveness and representation.
The delegation emphasised the importance of strengthening the United Nations’ role in addressing global challenges to support international peace and security and uphold principles of justice and equality.
The delegation was represented by Dr. Bassam Ismail Albinmohammed, member of the Shura Council, and MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan.
Dr. Bassam Albinmohammed highlighted that reviewing the United Nations Charter is essential to keeping pace with global developments and enhancing the organisation’s effectiveness.
Dr. Albinmohammed underlined the importance of increasing the representation of developing countries in international decision-making and strengthening transparency and accountability through parliamentary cooperation.
He also emphasised the role of parliaments in supporting UN reform through coordination, exchange of expertise, and parliamentary diplomacy.
