APM Terminals Bahrain recently marked Global Safety Day by hosting an employee workshop with the aim of strengthening psychological safety and community responsibility across Bahrain.
“While safety is often associated with systems, equipment and procedures, APM Terminals Bahrain recognises that psychological safety is equally vital,” said a company statement.
“When employees feel safe to speak up, raise concerns and share observations without fear, potential risks are identified earlier, decisions are strengthened, and incidents are prevented before they occur.”
This belief is reflected in the company’s strong safety performance. To date, APM Terminals Bahrain has achieved 120 lost time to injury (LTI) free days. By encouraging an environment where every voice matters, APM Terminals Bahrain strengthens workplace safety and operational reliability across a port that operates 24/7.
As an integral part of Bahrain’s logistics and maritime ecosystem, APM Terminals Bahrain understands that its safety culture reaches beyond its own workforce. Contractors, transport partners, customers and the surrounding community all rely on safe, dependable port operations.
A strong safety culture plays a critical role in sustaining business continuity by minimising operational disruptions, safeguarding people and critical infrastructure, strengthening emergency preparedness and response and reinforcing regulatory compliance and stakeholder confidence, the company said.
In recent months, the People Function at APM Terminals Bahrain has focused on strengthening trust, transparency, and employee wellbeing – key pillars of psychological safety – through concrete and timely actions.
During this period, the company placed a strong emphasis on clear communication, leadership presence and proactive support to ensure employees felt informed, supported, and safe. Actions were executed with clarity, respect for personal circumstances and close coordination between leadership and People teams to maintain confidence and wellbeing.
In parallel, the company launched a proactive employee check-in initiative, reaching 392 employees across all departments within a short period. These conversations provided employees with a safe space to share concerns, ask questions and raise wellbeing or safety-related issues.
“APM Terminals Bahrain continues to invest in capability building, recognising that well trained and confident employees are safer employees,” the statement added.
Since the onset of the conflict, the terminal has delivered 23 training programmes, benefitting 327 employees across the organisation. These programmes have focused on key areas including safety, lean practices, leadership development and skill enhancement, ensuring employees remain capable, resilient and prepared to operate in a dynamic environment.
The terminal has also conducted nine safety workshops and awareness sessions across 2025 and 2026. In 2025 alone, safety programmes included 13 dedicated training sessions, with an average of 15 participants per session, reaching approximately 195 employees.
