CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious rider Antonio Tiberi narrowly missed out on the top 20 yesterday in the prologue of the 79th Tour de Romandie in Switzerland.
The elite men’s road race, part of the Union Cycliste Internationale World Tour, is set to feature five stages, beginning today and covering 851.9 kilometres until Sunday.
Yesterday’s prologue was an individual time trial of 3.2km, with Tiberi finishing a solid 21st, 17.0 seconds behind winner Dorian Godon of Ineos Grenadiers, who had a time of three minutes 35.12 seconds.
Vlad van Mechelen was Victorious’ second-best competitor in 22nd 17.2 seconds from Godon, while Lenny Martinez came 25th 17.34s off the pace. Amongst the squad’s other members, Robert Stannard (+23.79s) was 45th, Kamil Gradek (+24.45s) was 48th, Damiano Caruso (+28.02s) was 57th, and Attila Valter (+28.97s) finished 59th.
Today’s first stage is set to cover a distance of 171.2km, starting and finishing at the city of Martigny.
