Lieutenant Colonel Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday attended a ceremony honouring First Lieutenant Shaikh Duaij bin Khalifa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, in recognition of his participation in the Marathon des Sables in Morocco, organised by the Military Sports Federation in co-operation with the Bahrain Athletics Association.
Lt Col Shaikh Mohammed highlighted the prowess of the kingdom’s sports sector, supported by His Majesty King Hamad, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and guided by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister, which have empowered Bahraini athletes and enabled them to succeed.
He affirmed that the global sporting achievements of Team Bahrain across disciplines are a source of national pride and a testament to the talent of the youth of Bahrain.
He congratulated First Lieutenant Shaikh Duaij on completing the renowned Marathon des Sables, one of the world’s most demanding races, becoming the first Bahraini ever to finish the event.
Lt Col Shaikh Mohammed commended the support of Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and his directives to the Military Sports Federation to encourage and support military athletes.
He also congratulated BDF personnel who are part of Muharraq Club’s football team on winning the HM the King’s Football Cup, as well as those part of Muharraq Club’s basketball team on winning the Zain Bahrain Basketball League title and the Khalifa bin Salman Basketball Cup.
“The achievements of military athletes reflect the advanced level of Bahraini sport across disciplines, underscoring the importance of building on these accomplishments to achieve further successes for the kingdom,” he added.
