THE General Sports Authority (GSA) and Bin Hejres Real Estate Development and Investment Co signed an agreement to implement the ‘Malaeb Al Fareej’, or neighbourhood football pitches, initiative.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, GSA chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the signing, along with GSA deputy chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The agreement was signed on the GSA’s behalf by GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, while Bin Hejres Real Estate Development and Investment Co chairman Aaref Hejres signed on behalf of the company.
The initiative aims to develop and equip football pitches within residential neighbourhoods across Bahrain, providing accessible spaces for community sports and encouraging wider participation, particularly among youth.
Shaikh Khalid said that the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to expand sports infrastructure at the community level and promote sport as a daily lifestyle, in line with national initiatives launched to support youth and enhance community engagement.
Shaikh Khalid added that providing sports facilities within neighbourhoods contributes to engaging youth, promoting social cohesion, and creating a positive environment that supports public health and quality of life.
Shaikh Khalid noted that the partnership with the private sector supports the implementation of national initiatives, while enhancing opportunities to identify and develop sporting talent and integrate it into clubs and national teams.
