Saudi Arabia said yesterday that three drones were intercepted and destroyed after entering the kingdom’s airspace from Iraq earlier in the day.
Defence Ministry spokesman Major General Turki Al Maliki said Saudi Arabia ‘reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place’ and would take ‘all necessary operational measures’ against any attempt to violate the kingdom’s sovereignty, security, or the safety of citizens and residents.
Bahrain strongly condemned and denounced the blatant terrorist attack targeting the security of Saudi Arabia via three drones launched from Iraqi airspace, viewing this as a dangerous regional escalation, a flagrant violation of international law and good neighbourliness, and a breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.
The Foreign Ministry affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, supporting all the measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty, security and people, emphasising that this stance reflects the deep ties between the two nations. It also commended the vigilance of the Saudi air defence forces in intercepting and destroying the drones.
The ministry reiterated Bahrain’s call for Iraq to take immediate, decisive action to hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent its territory or airspace from being used for hostile acts against neighbouring states.
