Senior Congress leader V.D. Satheesan was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Kerala, alongside 20 ministers, at a ceremony held at a packed Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, May 18.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) scripted a landslide victory over the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the 9 April Assembly elections, claiming 102 of the 140 seats in the State Assembly.
Satheesan was selected for the top post 10 days after the declaration of election results, effectively ending the stalemate the UDF alliance was locked in as major party leaders vied for the role.
The new cabinet includes two women and two ministers from Scheduled Caste communities. Satheesan stated that the incoming UDF government is committed to working towards building a new era of change for Kerala.
