Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak took part in the 93rd General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health in Paris.
He said Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues efforts to enhance national food security, develop veterinary services, and improve inspection and monitoring systems in line with government directives and sustainable development goals.
The minister praised the World Organisation for Animal Health for its role in developing international standards, strengthening member states’ capabilities, and supporting efforts to address animal diseases, zoonotic diseases, and antimicrobial resistance.
Mr Al Mubarak reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to building on achievements in food security and advancing preparedness to address regional and international challenges amid the impact of Iranian attacks targeting GCC countries and Jordan.
He said the world is facing growing challenges including biological risks, climate change, shifts in global trade, and rising demand for animal-based food products.
The minister underlined the importance of adopting the “One Health” approach, linking animal health, human health and environmental sustainability to improve countries’ ability to prevent health crises.
He added that the kingdom emphasises the importance of developing veterinary services, strengthening surveillance, early warning and biosecurity systems, and supporting digital transformation and the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in monitoring, risk analysis and rapid disease response to build more efficient and sustainable veterinary health systems.
