The landmark GCC-UK Free Trade Agreement will contribute to strengthening their economic partnership and supporting the visions and aspirations of the GCC member states, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has said.
He commended the progress achieved in the agreement, in which negotiations concluded with the signing of a Joint Statement.
Trade and investment between Bahrain and the United Kingdom are set for an unprecedented boost following the successful conclusion of negotiations for the agreement.
The deal was finalised on Wednesday, elevating bilateral co-operation across trade, investment, defence and culture to a new strategic level.
HRH Prince Salman expressed his appreciation to Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro for his dedicated efforts, which contributed to achieving this strategic milestone, during Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the GCC when he met British Ambassador Alastair Long at Riffa Palace yesterday.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to the national task force involved in the negotiations, comprising representatives from several government entities.
He affirmed the depth of the long-standing and historic relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom.
HRH Prince Salman highlighted the continued progress of bilateral co-operation across various sectors, including through strategic partnerships and joint agreements such as the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA).
During the meeting, HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister underscored the importance of deepening co-operation and promoting future opportunities that advance collaboration between both countries.
He commended the strength of the Bahrain-UK partnership, highlighting its significant role in supporting efforts to combat the hostile Iranian aggression.
HRH Prince Salman also highlighted the UK’s role, alongside allied countries, in safeguarding security and stability, and supporting regional and international development.
The meeting also reviewed the latest regional and international developments, as well as other issues of common interest.
Cabinet Affairs Minister Hamad Al Malki also attended the meeting.
