A major road bordering Bahrain’s busiest hospital and a leading university in Salmaniya is being upgraded to ease congestion, improve safety and address chronic parking shortages.
The Works Ministry has started redevelopment of Road 2904 in Block 329, which runs alongside Salmaniya Medical Complex and Arabian Gulf University, stretching from Salmaniya Avenue in the north to King Abdulaziz Avenue in the south.
The 600-metre stretch is a key artery used daily by thousands of patients, hospital visitors, university students and residents.
Works Ministry roads projects and maintenance director Hamad Bado said the scheme forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise Bahrain’s road network and enhance traffic safety in key areas.

Mr Bado
“The project aims to regulate traffic flow, while reorganising and increasing parking capacity,” he said.
“It will also help curb random and illegal parking, easing congestion and creating a safer environment for all road users.”
Mr Bado explained that the works include reconstruction of the road infrastructure, relocation and protection of underground services, installation of a drainage network, construction of pavements and additional parking spaces, as well as traffic signs and directional markings.

The area has long experienced heavy congestion and indiscriminate parking due to the constant flow of vehicles heading to Salmaniya Medical Complex, the kingdom’s largest public healthcare facility. Patients and visitors have frequently raised concerns over limited parking and traffic bottlenecks, particularly during peak clinic hours.
Parliament’s financial and economic affairs committee chairman and area MP Ahmed Al Salloom welcomed the project, describing it as an important step towards improving daily life for residents and visitors.

Mr Al Salloom
“This area is one of the busiest in Bahrain because it serves the country’s largest medical complex and major educational institutions,” he said.
“The redevelopment will improve accessibility and reduce pressure caused by traffic congestion and parking shortages.”
Mr Al Salloom said improving infrastructure in high-demand service areas is essential as Bahrain continues to expand healthcare, education and commercial services.
He also praised co-ordination efforts aimed at minimising disruption during construction work.
The Works Ministry has urged motorists and pedestrians to adhere to all traffic signs and instructions in the work zone to ensure safety and maintain smooth traffic flow.
