PARA POWERLIFTING – BAHRAINI athlete Amal Al Fardan bagged two medals – headlined by one gold – in the women’s up to 50kg category at the 2026 African Open Para-Powerlifting Championships, held in Oran, Algeria.
Al Fardan secured her gold for total after registering a top mark of 233kg in her category. Rukayat Ajiboye of Nigeria took silver with a 225kg total while Sonia Tendai of Kenya won bronze at 133kg.
Meanwhile, Al Fardan also claimed a bronze medal for her best lift of 80kg. Ajiboye won gold with a 115kg best, while Esther Nworgu, also of Nigeria, took silver at 114kg.
Al Fardan’s achievements came after a strong performance in a high-level competition, where she delivered outstanding technical levels that reflected the extent of her preparations and efforts, as well as that of the Para-powerlifting national team’s technical and administrative staff.
The event was held under the supervision of World Para Powerlifting.
It featured more than 150 athletes from 20 nations, who were also competing for ranking points for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
