A disability rights activist and athlete in Florida has gone viral online after she was pulled over for 'driving with a phone in her right hand', although she does not have a right hand.
Bodycam footage from February 11 interaction went viral online after a deputy with the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office pulled Kathleen Thomas over for what he says was driving with a device in her right hand. She then raises her right arm to show that he was clearly mistaken – and in fact, it would be impossible to hold anything in her right hand, because she doesn’t have one.
The 36-year-old then asks the officer if the matter had ended there, to which the officer refused to drop the issue, insisting that he had seen her 'hand up manipulating a phone'.
Kathleen Thomas was ultimately issued a ticket for $116.
Thomas disputed the ticket in court after social media users urged her to fight the citation.
The saga ended after the deputy requested the citation to be dismissed due to "lack of evidence" before the scheduled court hearing on Wednesday, May 27.
