The White House is pushing Congress to approve a $250 bill bearing President Trump’s face, a move that would require changing federal law barring living people from appearing on US currency.
Federal law bars printing US money with the image of a living person, but Trump allies in Congress have introduced legislation that would make an exception.
A Trump banknote would mark the latest effort by the president and his allies to place his name and image on public symbols since his return to the White House in 2025.
Trump’s signature is already set to appear on US paper notes as part of celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
In March, the US Commission of Fine Arts approved a commemorative gold coin bearing Trump’s image.
Other initiatives include adding Trump’s name to the Kennedy Centre, placing his portrait on US passports, and repainting Air Force One in colours favoured by the president.
The largest US bill currently printed is the $100 note, which features founding father Benjamin Franklin.
