Bahrain and the United Kingdom have signed an agreement to enhance customs co-operation that will contribute to facilitating the movement of legitimate trade, strengthen supply chain security and support economic development in both countries.
It was signed by Customs president Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa and His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) head of international customs and borders Megan Shaw, on the sidelines of the World Customs Organisation Council meetings held in Brussels, Belgium yesterday.
The Customs president affirmed that the signing of the agreement reflects strong historical relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom.
He said it also reflects mutual keenness to enhance and develop customs co-operation in line with global developments and requirements.
The agreement aims to develop channels for the exchange of information on issues related to customs legislation and its implementation, supporting the achievement of the common goals.
The joint declaration also includes the direction to establish a joint technical committee comprising representatives from both sides.
The committee will organise study visits and collaborative activities that facilitate the exchange of expertise.
