BASKETBALL – The kingdom has been awarded by the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) the rights to host two 3x3 basketball tournaments for the first time, Quest and Lite Quest events, which will both act as qualifiers for higher-tier competitions on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2026.
First to take place on July 28 will be the Bahrain Open Lite Quest, which will serve as a qualifier for the Phoenix Challenger in the US, scheduled for September 19 and 20.
That will then be followed by the Bahrain Summer Tour Quest on July 30, which will act as the qualification competition for the Debrecen Masters event in Hungary, set for August 29 and 30.
Both meetings offer opportunities to compete on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour – the premier street basketball series featuring international tournaments of various levels held around the world.
Masters events are the highest-tier followed by Challengers – both of which are fed by the qualifiers, which include Super Quest, Quest, and Lite Quest.
The rosters of participating teams in both competitions have yet to be confirmed by Fiba.
Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) board member and competitions committee chairman Hassan Yaseen said that Bahrain gaining the rights to host these tournaments marks a new achievement for the kingdom, and it reflects Fiba’s confidence in Bahrain’s organisational capabilities and advanced sports infrastructure.
Yaseen added that the BBA remains committed to developing 3x3 basketball by hosting high-quality tournaments and providing teams and players with opportunities to compete at the game’s highest levels.
