HOCKEY – BDF hockey team were recently crowned champions of the Six-a-Side Field Hockey Tournament, organised by the Bahrain Hockey Association (BHA) in collaboration with Malik Hockey Club and played at the newly inaugurated KHK Academy in Salmabad.
The event brought together hockey talent from across the kingdom, with the BDF team being joined by runners-up Bahrain Lions and third-placers Super Hockey Bahrain, along with Junior Hockey Bahrain and Hungry Hamurs.
The final between BDF and Bahrain Lions ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw before BDF secured the title through a 3-1 penalty shootout victory.
Goalkeeper and captain Waheed Sardar produced a remarkable performance, saving two penalties and earning the Best Player Award.
The event also highlighted BHA’s commitment to grassroots development, with young players receiving recognition medals and a special lucky draw prize awarded to promising Bahraini youngster Ahmed Ghulam Chaudhry.
Bahrain Cricket Federation advisory board chairman Muhammad Mansoor was the chief guest. He praised the efforts of organisers and participants and reaffirmed support for the continued development of hockey in Bahrain while expressing hope for future GCC-level competitions.
