HANDBALL – BAHRAIN’S youth men’s national team have been drawn in a tough Group A for the 11th AHF Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship, set to take place August 20 to 31 in Amman, Jordan.
The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) conducted the draw ceremony for the under-19 tournament at the Jordan Handball Federation (JHF) headquarters at Princess Sumaya Hall in Amman.
The 11-nation competition, which was relocated from its original host city of Andijan in Uzbekistan, will also serve as the AHF qualification event for the 12th IHF Men’s Youth Handball World Championship, with the top four teams securing qualification for the worlds, taking place in 2027.
Along with Bahrain in Group A are defending champions Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Chinese Taipei; while Group B features South Korea, Kuwait, Iran, Jordan, Syria, and India.
A new draw was held by the AHF following the confirmation of the tournament’s new location.
Bahrain’s youth men’s squad are set to participate in the tournament for the 10th time, having only missed its 2006 edition.
The Bahrainis have won the gold medals twice in the past – on back-to-back occasions in 2016 and in 2018.
The nationals also took the bronze medals in 2010, and have placed in the top five in each of their other appearances.
