TRIATHLON – BAHRAIN Victorious 13 athletes continued their strong form across track and triathlon in international events, with Cassandre Beaugrand breaking a 21-year-old French record in Monaco and Vasco Vilaca claiming silver at WTCS Hamburg to remain at the top of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) standings and continue his pursuit of the world title.
Competing in Monaco, Beaugrand broke the long-standing French mark in the 3,000 metres on her debut in the prestigious Diamond League. The Paris Olympic triathlon champion clocked eight minutes 32.86 seconds to finish eighth, taking more than two seconds off the previous mark of 8:35.41.
The performance adds another chapter to Beaugrand’s return to competitive running. Already the French junior 10-kilometre record holder and a two-time national youth cross-country champion, she has spent part of the 2026 season revisiting her running roots, setting new national records in the 5,000m and the 5km and 10km road races along the way.
Meanwhile, Vilaca continued his WTCS campaign with a silver medal in Hamburg, Germany. Racing over the sprint distance, the Portuguese star positioned himself at the front from the outset and remained in contention throughout the swim, bike, and run.
He crossed the line in 50 minutes and 10 seconds – just three seconds behind winner Matthew Hauser of Australia, collecting valuable championship points to retain the overall Series lead. Henry Graf of Germany joined them on the podium five seconds behind Vilaca.
Less than 24 hours later, Vilaca returned to the start line for the mixed relay, producing Team Portugal’s fastest leg to help guide the team to sixth place.
Attention now turns to long-course racing, with Bahrain Victorious 13’s Marten Van Riel lining up at Ironman Lake Placid this weekend.
The Belgian has already finished runner-up at Ironman Texas this season, following his second-place finish on his full-distance debut last year. With the Ironman World Championship in Kona looming in October, Lake Placid presents another opportunity to chase a breakthrough victory as he builds towards his biggest target of the season.
