CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious put in a brave challenge yesterday in the 11th stage of the 113th Tour de France, with Phil Bauhaus emerging as their best finisher in 24th.
Bauhaus was towards the back of a large group that made a sprint to the finish, with the 161.3-kilometre leg turning out to be the fastest-ever stage in Tour de France history.
Kamil Gradek finished 31st for Bahrain Victorious while Robert Stannard was 55th, Damiano Caruso 102nd, Lenny Martinez 105th, Antonio Tiberi 107th, Matej Mohoric 116th, and Vlad Van Mechelen 163rd.
Martinez stayed Bahrain Victorious’ highest-placed member in the general classification in ninth overall, while also remaining eighth in the King of the Mountains ranking and fourth in the best young rider standings.
The Tour de France is the second Grand Tour of this international cycling season. The first was the Giro d’Italia held in May, while the last will be the Vuelta a Espana, which is scheduled for August and September. This year’s Tour de France covers a total of 3,319km and 54,303m of elevation. Today will be the 12th stage, covering 179.1km.
