A young Bahraini woman who lost her life in last week’s bus accident in Saudi Arabia will be laid to rest in Bahrain today after her body was repatriated to the kingdom.
Zahraa Abdulkarim Hassan will be buried at 5.30pm at Halat Al Abd Al Saleh Cemetery, with mourners expected to gather to pay their final respects following funeral prayers.
Condolences for men will be received at East Karbabad Ma’atam from tomorrow to Sunday, while women will receive mourners at Al Zahraa Hall, East Karbabad Ma’atam for Women, over the same period.
The tragedy unfolded when a bus carrying 18 members of the same Bahraini family overturned while travelling from Mecca to Medina, claiming Ms Hassan’s life and leaving several relatives injured.
Most of the family members have now returned safely to Bahrain after receiving treatment in Saudi Arabia.
Family member Hassan Al Daqqaq previously told the GDN that nine injured passengers and accompanying relatives arrived back in Bahrain after travelling from Medina to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, with additional family members returning on subsequent flights.
Two women injured in the crash remain in Saudi Arabia where they are continuing to receive treatment.
Their condition is understood to be stable and they are being assisted by Bahrain’s Consulate-General in Jeddah.
Bahrain’s Embassy in Saudi Arabia has been co-ordinating with the Saudi authorities, facilitating the return of Bahraini citizens, overseeing consular procedures and monitoring the condition of the injured.
