Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak received United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) commission for controlling desert locust in the central region executive secretary Dr Mamoon Al Alawi.
Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs Under-Secretary Asim Abdullatif Abdulla and several ministry officials were also present.
The visit comes as part of preparations for the 34th session of the commission for controlling the desert locust in the central region, which Bahrain will host in December.
During the meeting, the minister reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with the commission in support of regional efforts to combat the desert locust, a transboundary pest that threatens agricultural resources and food security.
He also underscored Bahrain’s support for the commission’s work and affirmed the kingdom’s commitment to providing all necessary arrangements to ensure the success of the commission’s 34th session, reflecting its belief in the importance of Arab and regional co-operation and enhanced co-ordination among member states.
The meeting reviewed issues of mutual interest and discussed prospects for future co-operation, particularly in developing early warning systems, strengthening data and information exchange, building national capacities, and leveraging modern technologies for monitoring and risk analysis to enhance regional preparedness and response to desert locust outbreaks.
