Pakistan's Punjab province has launched the Green Railway Corridor project to transform neglected railway land into parks and recreational spaces, as part of a wider drive towards a greener, smog-free region.
The initiative aims to develop 32 parks on abandoned railway land previously blighted by waste dumping and encroachments.
The project’s first phase has been completed, transforming 20 acres of land from Shahdara to Raiwind into landscaped greenbelts, gardens, and public spaces.
A total of 21 parks have already been developed along the railway corridor, providing leisure facilities for residents while helping improve the environment.
Spanning approximately 45km, the Green Railway Corridor project is being executed at a cost of more than PKR1.77 billion (BD2.3 million).
