Local fish markets are witnessing a noticeable increase in prices, as rising temperatures affect fishing activity, prompting a number of fishermen to reduce their fishing trips and resulting in lower quantities of fish available in the markets.
The price of a kilo of Bahraini Safi fish has reached around BD7, amid expectations that prices will continue to rise if fishing activity declines and temperatures continue to increase.
A fisherman told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej that the quantities of fish currently reaching the market are limited, confirming that fishing has become ‘scarce’.
