VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain’s senior men’s volleyball national team wrapped up their overseas training camp in Seoul, South Korea yesterday and will depart today for Japan to take part in the AVC Volleyball Men’s Continental Championship 2026, to be held in the city of Fukuoka from this Friday to September 13.
As part of their concluding day’s programme, the Bahrainis held a technical meeting with head coach Ivan Joksimovic and his staff.
They also played an unofficial practice match behind closed doors against South Korea’s senior men’s squad, who are guided by Bahrain’s ex-national team head coach Issanaye Ramires from Brazil.
Bahrain and South Korea had also taken to the court in a pair of international friendly games during their stay, held as part of both sides’ preparations for their continental title bids as well as part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Bahrain and South Korea are part of a 12-nation field that will be going for gold in Fukuoka.
The Bahrainis are in Pool A for the preliminary round alongside defending champions and hosts Japan, Australia, and Oman.
Pool B features Iran, China, India, and New Zealand; while Pool C is composed of the South Koreans, Qatar, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand.
The title winners of this year’s AVC Volleyball Men’s Continental Championship will earn a direct quota place for the men’s volleyball tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, while the top three finishers will secure berths in the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup 2027.
