Beachgoers and water sports enthusiasts at Bahrain Bay have been urged to put safety first as the Coastguard stepped up awareness efforts targeting swimmers, divers and recreational boat users.
The campaign was organised by the Coastguard in co-operation and co-ordination with the Capital Governorate Police Directorate as part of efforts to promote maritime safety among members of the community.
Coastguard personnel distributed safety guidance, copies of the Watani magazine and life jackets to visitors during the coastal and marine awareness campaign.
Visitors were reminded of the importance of wearing life jackets while swimming and using designated swimming areas, while divers were warned against diving in the area without an approved licence.
The campaign also highlighted safety requirements for those using jet skis and rowing boats, with users urged to follow the rules governing recreational marine activities.
As part of the campaign, authorities also checked safety requirements and the validity of licences held by operators renting rowing boats in the area.
The inspections are aimed at ensuring that recreational marine activities are carried out in accordance with safety requirements and that suitable safeguards are in place for members of the public.
The Coastguard urged all sea users to follow safety instructions and regulations governing marine activities, stressing the importance of taking precautions before entering the water or using recreational craft.
It also reminded the public that the Coastguard emergency hotline 994 is available for urgent assistance.
