A drug dealer boasting his own promotional video for prisoners tried to provide narcotics to Jaw Prison inmates by stashing joints behind toilets at a hospital, the High Criminal Court heard.
His entrepreneurial spirit was dampened after being busted by police before a proposed sale was completed.
The 36-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined BD5,000 by judges on charges of possessing and selling cocaine, meth and synthetic cannabinoids.
The court heard that the Bahraini marketed and sold drugs to prisoners. In October, he had arranged with two Jaw inmates to pick up drugs hidden in Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).
A video found on the defendant’s mobile phone reportedly shows him on camera promising: “Whatever you desire, we got it. We’ve balled it up and rolled it, brother, I’ll take care of the rest, okay?”
Prior to the exchange taking place, police had ‘intel’ about the agreement and stationed up an officer to be on the lookout at the hospital.
“I was sent to SMC to secure the location, as we had information that some inmates were going there to receive drugs,” a policeman testified.
“At 11pm, I saw the defendant near the bathroom. I went in and spotted a rolled-up piece containing a dark substance, suspected of being drugs.
“The two prisoners came to the hospital via National Ambulance, went to that bathroom, then came out. They said nothing was wrong with them and asked to leave hospital without receiving treatment.”
Investigators acquired a warrant from the Public Prosecution and arrested the defendant five days after the failed exchange.
In total, eight ‘rolled’ pieces were recovered from behind and under toilets, with ‘various types of drugs inside’.
In addition to drug trading charges, the Bahraini was found guilty of possessing morphine and meth for personal use.
Having been previously found guilty on drug-related charges, he was tried in court as a repeat offender, which carries higher penalties with less lenience shown by judges.
He will now be joining his would-be customers behind bars for the next decade.
