Two people were killed and four others injured after an electric current spread near a festival pandal, a structure erected for gatherings, early on Sunday during Ganesh festival celebrations in Lalbaug, India.
The incident occurred at around 2.20am near a cold drinks stall set up close to the pandal entrance.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade and police arrived shortly after, immediately disconnecting the power supply and cordoning off the area.
Five victims were rushed to Masina Hospital, where doctors declared an eight-year-old girl dead upon arrival. A woman who also suffered an electric shock later succumbed to her injuries at Global Hospital.
The four surviving victims, aged between 12 and 19, suffered severe burns and remain under treatment.
Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the incident.
