Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Secretary-General highlighted cooperation between Bahrain and the United Nations and its specialised agencies in various areas of mutual interest.
Dr Al Zayani conveyed the appreciation of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for Guterres’ efforts to strengthen the role of the UN in addressing current international issues and challenges.
The Minister expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s pride in its continued cooperation with the UN and its various bodies across a wide range of areas, and in the constructive achievements made through cooperation efforts in support of the Kingdom’s comprehensive development and its aspirations for further progress and prosperity.
The meeting addressed the latest regional developments and the challenges facing the countries of the region, as well as the repercussions of disruptions to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab. The two sides also discussed issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly and exchanged views on the efforts undertaken by the United Nations Security Council to resolve regional conflicts and support international efforts to promote international peace and security.
Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the UN in New York, and Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaliq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were present.
