Bahrain has won the bid to host one of the most prestigious dental health events in the world in 2028.
The Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI World Dental Federation) World Dental Congress will take place at the Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) and will be organised in collaboration with the Bahrain Dental Society (BDS).
“The successful bid will bring the global dental community to Bahrain for the flagship annual congress of the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI), the principal representative body for more than one million dentists worldwide,” EWB said in a statement.
“The Congress provides a global platform for advancing the science and practice of dentistry, strengthening professional ties and fostering collaboration across the international oral health community.”
The bid was led jointly by EWB and BDS, in a collaboration between Bahrain’s professional dental community and its business events infrastructure.
The FDI World Dental Congress features a cutting-edge scientific programme, interactive forums addressing the most relevant topics in dentistry, and an international dental exhibition showcasing the latest innovations, technologies and solutions from across the dental industry.
“This notable achievement reflects the strength of our partnerships and the kingdom’s growing reputation as a destination for major international congresses,” Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) chief executive officer and EWB chairperson Sara Buhiji noted.
“This prestigious event will bring together leading dental professionals, researchers, innovators and industry experts from around the world, creating valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration and professional development.
“We look forward to working closely with BDS and FDI to deliver a world-class congress while showcasing Bahrain’s hospitality, connectivity and capabilities as a leading destination for business events.”
Held in a different host country each year, the World Dental Congress provides a unique opportunity for dental professionals, researchers, industry leaders and decision-makers from around the world to connect, exchange knowledge and shape the future of oral health.
This year’s expo was held in Prague, Czech Republic, from September 4 to 7, drawing more than 6,000 dental professionals from 122 countries, according to FDI.
It received more than 1,500 scientific abstract submissions from 74 countries.
Next year, the expo will be held in Mumbai, India, with more than 30,000 attendees expected.

“This achievement reflects the dedication and commitment of BDS to raising the profile of the kingdom and showcasing the capabilities of our dental community across professional, scientific, and societal fields.
“Hosting FDI 2028 is not only an achievement to celebrate but also a significant responsibility and challenge for Bahrain’s dental professionals, as well as our partners and colleagues across the Gulf.
“Through collaboration and collective effort, we are confident that we can present the world with a distinguished image of Bahraini and Gulf dental professionals and demonstrate our ability to host international events to the highest standards.”
The Congress will also provide a platform for the local and international dental industry to engage through its exhibition as well as business and networking opportunities, while showcasing the latest developments shaping the future of oral healthcare.
The dates for the congress will be announced once finalised.
