Foreign ministers of the three countries party to the Mecca Agreement on Joint Defence discussed arrangements for an urgent meeting of their chiefs of staff to examine ways of supporting Saudi Arabia under the agreement, which stipulates that any attack against one party constitutes an attack against all parties, according to the Saudi Foreign Ministry.
The development came during a meeting held by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan at the kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, within the framework of the Mecca Agreement on Joint Defence.
The ministers also strongly condemned the “heinous attacks targeting the Holy Mecca, and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia,” praising the vigilance of the Saudi Armed Forces and their ability to defend the kingdom’s security. They affirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to take the measures it deems appropriate to defend its security, according to the Saudi Foreign Ministry.
