A friendly football match between Turkish Süper Lig club Konyaspor and the Palestine national team was brought to a symbolic halt at 89 minutes and 59 seconds following a stadium declaration that the fixture was "postponed until Palestine is free".
The two teams contested a historic 2-2 draw in a solidarity friendly on Wednesday at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium under the motto "Our home is your home".
Supporters filled the 42,000-capacity venue, transforming the athletic contest into a large-scale demonstration of support for the Palestinian people.
Banners displayed across the stands highlighted the humanitarian situation in Gaza and affirmed solidarity with Palestinians while condemning Israeli military action in the enclave.
In a planned tribute at 10 minutes and 14 seconds into the match, stadium lights were switched off to commemorate the 1,014 members of the Palestinian sports community killed in attacks since October 2023.
Supporters in the stands showered the pitch with confetti and soft toys as part of the memorial action.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a statement praising the event as an extraordinary demonstration of bilateral unity and thanking the city of Konya for hosting the Palestinian delegation.
