Urban Planning and Development Authority CEO Ahmed Al Khayyat participated in a panel discussion on integrated urban planning and quality of life as part of the Innovation Summit in the Social Housing Sector 2026.
The session was held alongside Ahmed Al Yabsi, director general of the General Administration of Urban Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Dr Ayman El Hefnawi, head of Country Programme and Representative of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in the GCC countries.
Mr Al Khayyat emphasised that Bahrain continues to develop its urban planning system through an integrated approach that places people and quality of life at the centre of the planning process, based on data, spatial balance, sustainability and the preservation of urban identity.
This contributes to building more resilient and sustainable cities.
He said improving quality of life in cities begins with adopting an integrated planning approach.
The Authority uses geographic information systems and accurate urban indicators to understand growth patterns, identify needs and direct investment.
It also works to distribute development, services and opportunities across the different governorates to promote spatial equity.
