Renowned Bahraini psychiatrist and academic researcher Professor Ahmed Malallah Al Ansari will be delivering a talk next week catering to parents and caregivers of children with special needs, marking World Mental Health Day.
The talk, titled ‘Caring for the Caregiver’ will be hosted by ReadON Arabia, in collaboration with the Special Families Support Group Bahrain (SFS), on Saturday from 4pm to 6pm at Sammarlatte cafe in Sanad.
The session focuses on the emotional and psychological wellbeing of caregivers who often receive less attention while families focus on therapy, education, appointments and the day-to-day needs of their children. Prof Al Ansari will lead a parent-focused discussion offering practical advice around caregiver stress and burnout, emotional wellbeing, family communication, coping strategies and recognising when professional support may be helpful.
The evening will also include selected parent experiences and a moderated discussion, giving attendees an opportunity to reflect on their own journeys, hear from others facing similar responsibilities and take away practical ideas that can support their own wellbeing.
Prof Al Ansari has worked for more than four decades in child and adolescent psychiatry, after becoming the first Bahraini specialist in the field.
He helped establish the Gulf’s first child psychiatric unit in 1981 and has played a longstanding role in developing services and organisations supporting children with developmental needs and their families.
Attendance is complimentary but limited, and prior registration is required.
