Bernadette Azucena, 42, was asleep in the Philippines, 7,000km away from the UAE, when her phone rang at around 1.30am.
The call was meant to inform her that she had won AED20 million (BD2 million) in the Series 291 live draw in Abu Dhabi.
Azucena only learned of the massive win after waking up to news from her husband, who works in the UAE.
She had lived in the UAE until last year before returning to the Philippines to undergo surgery, where she has remained since.
Azucena plans to use her winnings to pay off her home mortgage in the Philippines while continuing to enter future draws.
