The Indian Ladies Association (ILA) hosted its much-awaited folk dance event Platinum Dandiya Beats 2026, bringing together crowds in a celebration of Indian culture, music and community spirit.
It was held at the Crowne Plaza Convention Centre in the presence of chief guest Social Development Minister Osama Al Alawi.
The programme commenced with the traditional beats of the dhol drum, followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony, after which a video was played celebrating the 70th anniversary – the platinum anniversary – of the ILA.
The evening continued with inaugural dance performances by ILA members, then traditional garba and dandiya dances, as well as a performance by Mumbai-based DJ Nitesh.
Merchandise tables, food stalls, photo booths and rangoli displays were part of the event with awards for best dancer and best dressed, alongside a prize raffle.
A stall dedicated to the ILA-run Sneha Centre, which provides education to children with special needs, showcased items made by children and volunteers.
The dandiya tradition hails from Gujarat, India, where groups of dancers of all ages form large circles to take part in a performance embellished with lively music, colourful jackets and skirts.
The dance features decorated wooden dandiya sticks, from which it takes its name.
ILA also announced its 70th Anniversary Platinum Jubilee Gala, which will take place on December 10 at the Gulf Convention Centre.
