The restoration of direct flight connectivity between Bahrain and Malaysia has been met with resounding enthusiasm, marking a major step forward in strengthening economic, cultural, and bilateral ties between the two nations.
Speaking following the successful launch of Gulf Air’s inaugural direct service to Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday, the airline’s chief executive officer Martin Gauss highlighted that the overwhelming response from passengers, industry partners, and stakeholders underscores strong confidence in the long-term viability of the route.
“The inaugural flight was received exceptionally well, reflecting the strong enthusiasm for the restoration of direct connectivity between Bahrain and Malaysia,” Mr Gauss added. “The positive response reinforces our confidence in the route’s long-term potential.”
The new non-stop link is expected to serve as a vital gateway, making business travel, trade engagements, and tourism significantly more accessible for both countries. Beyond enhancing travel convenience, the service is positioned to spur two-way investment, deepen cultural exchange, and fuel tourism growth in both markets.
“The direct service creates a stronger bridge between Bahrain and Malaysia, bringing communities and businesses closer together while supporting economic growth in both regions,” Mr Gauss said.
The flight resumption also aligned with key high-profile promotional efforts during the race weekend. While the iconic Gulf Air flypast remained a hallmark spectacle of the event, the national carrier also capitalised on the global platform to further boost its international footprint.
Through dedicated activations – including the popular Gulf Air Fan Zone – the airline engaged media, partners, and international visitors to highlight Bahrain’s appeal as a premier destination for tourism and events, while showcasing Gulf Air’s expanding presence across Malaysia and the broader Asian market.
