MOTORSPORT – Juste Mulder spearheaded a sweep of the podium places for Evans GP yesterday after winning the second race in round one of the 2026 Formula Trophy Malaysia (FTM), held in support of the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026 at Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
Mulder took the chequered flag in the 11-lap event in a time of 29 minutes 25.963 seconds.
The Dutchman triumphed with a narrow 0.521s gap from Evans GP teammate and runner-up Hoi Nam Anh Nguyen from Vietnam, while David Cosma-Cristofor from Romania, who is also part of the Evans GP outfit, took third place 2.897s back.
Adding to their success, Evans GP rookie Aaron Mehta finished fourth amongst the 20-car field. He came away with the award for best rookie during the podium ceremonies.
With yesterday’s result, Mulder joined Marco Manson of Pinnacle Motorsport as winners from the FTM’s curtain-raising meeting.
Manson triumphed in race one ahead of Mulder and Nguyen.
FTM returns to action at SIC with the second round of its campaign this November 6 to 8 alongside the 2026 China GT Championship.
The third and final meeting will then take place December 12 to 14 as part of the support programme for the Sepang 12 Hours.
FTM is one of South East Asia’s premier single-seater championships for junior drivers. Formerly known as the Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, it was rebranded ahead of this 2026 season, which features three rounds, all at SIC.
FTM continues in the footsteps of Formula Trophy UAE, organised as an end-of-season series for Formula Four cars and aimed at drivers preparing to take their first steps into international F4 competition.
The field in round one is largely composed of F4 newcomers, hailing from as far afield as Europe and Scandinavia as well as across Australasia and Asia.
