Several motorists have been remanded in custody and referred to the Criminal Court after allegedly driving at excessive speeds, filming themselves behind the wheel and posting the footage on social media.
The Public Prosecution's Advocate General and Traffic Prosecutor said the cases were uncovered after videos showing vehicles being driven recklessly began circulating online.
The footage raised serious concerns as the drivers were allegedly using mobile phones to record themselves while breaking the speed limits, putting their own lives and the lives of other road users at risk.
The Prosecutor added that the Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation and the General Directorate of Traffic was able to identify those allegedly involved in the posts.
The suspects were subsequently arrested and the vehicles used in the alleged offences were impounded.
During questioning, the accused were confronted with the videos and admitted to the charges against them, according to the Public Prosecution.
The prosecution ordered that they be held in pre-trial detention pending further investigations before referring them to the Criminal Court.
The cases highlight growing concerns over motorists recording and sharing dangerous driving behaviour online, potentially encouraging others to imitate stunts.
Authorities have repeatedly warned motorists against speeding and the use of mobile phones while driving, stressing that such behaviour can have fatal consequences for road users and pedestrians.
