Bahrain’s membership of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) will strengthen its presence in the global tourism industry and expand opportunities for co-operation with international tourism organisations, industry leaders and investors, Tourism Minister and Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) chairperson Fatima Al Sairafi has said.
The minister made the remarks during her participation in the three-day WTTC’s 26th Global Summit, held in Valletta, Malta, with the participation of ministers, government officials, chief executives, investors and representatives of international travel and tourism companies.
Ms Al Sairafi said the membership reflected Bahrain’s commitment to expanding international tourism partnerships and strengthening engagement with the global private sector.
She highlighted opportunities to exchange expertise, attract investment, develop tourism destinations and products and improve the visitor experience through international co-operation.
She added that the membership would enable Bahrain to participate in the WTTC’s specialised initiatives and programmes and explore further opportunities for tourism co-operation and investment.
The minister emphasised the importance of engaging with international tourism platforms to keep pace with developments in the sector, particularly the use of data, technology and artificial intelligence in developing tourism programmes and initiatives as well as supporting sustainable tourism.
The WTTC represents the private sector in the global travel and tourism industry, bringing together leaders of major international companies.
Its work includes assessing tourism’s economic impact, strengthening public and private sector partnerships, promoting sustainability, facilitating travel and providing research and data to support co-operation and investment.
