TRANSPORTATION and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and Jordanian Ambassador and Diplomatic Corps Dean Rami Saleh Wreikat Al Adwan signed a co-operation agreement between the governments of Bahrain and Jordan in maritime transport and navigation.
The agreement aims to strengthen co-ordination, develop co-operation in the maritime sector, support trade and transport flows, and advance the mutual interests of both countries.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla said the agreement reflects the two countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding co-operation in maritime transport through closer co-ordination between the relevant authorities and the exchange of expertise and maritime technologies.
These efforts, he said, will contribute to improving the efficiency of maritime transport and navigation, enhancing maritime safety and security, and protecting the marine environment in accordance with national legislation and relevant international conventions.
He noted that the agreement reflects Bahrain’s commitment to developing its maritime transport sector and strengthening regional and international partnerships, thereby enhancing the sector’s competitiveness and supporting sustainable economic development in line with the objectives of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
For his part, Ambassador Al Adwan said the agreement marks an important step towards broadening co-operation between the two countries in maritime transport and navigation and strengthening co-ordination and the exchange of expertise between the relevant authorities. This will help facilitate maritime trade and serve the shared interests of both countries.
The agreement covers several areas of co-operation, including facilitating vessel movements and maritime transport procedures, recognising ships’ and crew members’ documents, and strengthening co-operation in maritime safety and security and marine environmental protection, alongside the exchange of maritime expertise and technologies.
It also provides for encouraging maritime shipping companies in both countries to cooperate in accordance with each party’s applicable legislation, thereby creating further partnership opportunities, developing the maritime transport and navigation sector, and supporting trade between Bahrain and Jordan.
