A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly luring and blackmailing a 15-year-old girl from outside the kingdom through a social media platform.
The Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security said an investigation was launched immediately after a report was received.
Information and evidence gathered during the probe led to the identification and arrest of the suspect in less than 24 hours.
Legal procedures have been completed ahead of referring the case to the Public Prosecution.
The unit stressed the importance of strengthening the role of families in protecting children from online grooming and blackmail, including by monitoring their activities on social media and raising awareness of the risks of communicating with strangers or sharing personal photos and information.
It also emphasised the need to immediately report any incident through its direct number (33523300), email cpcu@interior.gov.bh or the hotline of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security (992).
