Bahrain has been chosen to host the 36th General Conference of the General Arab Insurance Federation (GAIF) in 2028 following a successful bid, the Bahrain Insurance Association (BIA) has announced.
The major biennial event, considered one of the largest insurance gatherings in the Arab world, is expected to draw more than 3,000 delegates and industry leaders from across the globe.
Hosting the landmark conference will bring together top executives and decision-makers from both the Arab and international insurance and reinsurance sectors to exchange market insights, forge strategic partnerships, and address emerging industry challenges and growth opportunities.
It will also serve as a premier platform to highlight the strength and capabilities of the kingdom’s financial services sector.
Expressing his appreciation over the announcement, Bahrain Insurance Association chairman Dr Abdulla Sultan said: “We are honoured that Bahrain has been selected to host GAIF 2028. This is an important opportunity for our insurance community to welcome its regional and international peers, share expertise and build relationships that will support the sector’s continued development.
“We look forward to working with GAIF and our partners in Bahrain to deliver a conference that creates lasting value for participants.”
Confirming the selection, Chakib Abouzaid, secretary general of the General Arab Insurance Federation, said that the decision was passed with unanimous support: “The General Arab Insurance Federation is pleased to announce that the GAIF Council has unanimously voted to award the Kingdom of Bahrain the right to host the 36th GAIF General Conference in 2028.
“Bahrain previously hosted the GAIF General Conference in 2008. Over the decades, the Bahraini insurance market has been known for its dynamism, with the presence of numerous large and well-established companies, supported by a robust legal and regulatory framework governing the corporate governance of insurance and takaful companies.
“At the GAIF General Secretariat, we have no doubt that the Bahraini insurance market and the Bahrain Insurance Association will rise to the occasion and take full responsibility for ensuring the success of the 36th GAIF General Conference.”
Moving forward, the BIA will work closely with the GAIF General Secretariat and local key stakeholders to finalise the main agenda, technical sessions, and logistical hosting arrangements.
