The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry has confirmed that it is studying, in co-ordination with the Industry and Commerce Ministry and the General Directorate of Traffic, the inclusion of delivery services among land transport activities.
The move involves preparing a draft ministerial decision to regulate the sector and comes as part of its consideration of a parliamentary proposal calling for tighter regulation of licences for motorcycles used for delivery services.
The ministry explained that delivery services do not currently fall within the remit of its land transport sector.
However, the relevant authorities are studying the possibility of bringing the activity under the sector’s regulatory framework, allowing specific rules to be established for the industry.
