BASKETBALL – DHAIF Husain Dhaif buried a game-clinching three-pointer at the buzzer to help lift Sitra to a last-gasp 83-82 victory over Nuwaidrat last night to get gameweek four underway in the 2026-27 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Dhaif scored his winning basket from the right corner off an assist from teammate Lamar Mallory, who brought the ball down following a rebound from teammate Abbas Fadhel Jasim on the other end. Dhaif’s shot capped a game-ending 5-0 run that earned Sitra the stunning result and their first victory after four tries in the new national basketball season.
Sitra battled back from 60-64 down heading into the final quarter after almost squandering leads as big as 11 points in the opening half at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
Mallory spearheaded Sitra in the contest, scoring 23 points and nearly finishing with a triple double with 13 rebounds and seven assists.
Ali Jawad Salman added 14 markers while Ali Mohsen Ebrahim and Salman Alkaabi finished with 12 apiece. Dhaif had seven points off the bench – none bigger than the last three points as he finished one-of-one from beyond the arc.
Abbas Jameel Albasri had 27 points including six triples to pace Nuwaidrat, while Wesley Alcegaire had 22. Nuwaidrat suffered their fourth successive defeat and are still searching for their first win.
The fourth round of the league continues tonight and tomorrow with two games each evening at the same venue. Tonight, Isa Town face Samaheej at 6pm followed by Al Hala battling Al Najma at 8pm. Tomorrow, two-time defending champions and recently crowned Bahrain Super Cup winners Muharraq play Al Ettihad at 6pm, before Al Ahli lock horns with Manama in a titanic clash at 8pm.
