Manama: The technology investment firm C5 Accelerate will join MEET ICT Conference and BITEX 2017 as the strategic innovation partner.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed will partronise the two events to be held at the Gulf Hotel’s Gulf Convention Centre from February 7 to 9.
C5 representatives are expected to showcase their experience in the Cloud Accelerator programme that speeds up the development, presence and growth of technology firms benefiting from the “Cloud 10” Programme.
In Bahrain, C5 recently launched the Cloud10 technology accelerator programme or ‘Scalerator’ powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Cloud10 is one of the first platforms in the region created to help young technology firms – B2B firms including FinTech, MedTech, EnergyTech etc – to ‘scale-up’ their businesses using the cloud.
Through the Cloud 10 programme C5 aims to create 300 EMEA technology champions over the next four years.
In a statement on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the partnership agreement, BTECH board chairman Obaidly Al Obaidly stressed the importance of the partnership with C5 Accelerate Limited within the conference, noting that it will pave the way for raising topics pertaining to innovation and entrepreneurship, and strengthening the presence of the emerging small and medium-sized technology companies in Arab markets, especially in light of the choice of the AWS-supported C5 company of Bahrain to be the host of the first incubator of cloud computing in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
This factor will help develop entrepreneurship in Bahrain, particularly in the information and technology sector (IT), Mr Al Obaidly added.
Worksmart chief executive Ahmed Al Hujairi said the partnership with C5 achieves the goals of developing the conference and the exhibition so that they keep abreast of the latest in the IT industry.
Those plans include discussing the required mechanisms to develop emerging technology companies, operating in various fields, including financial and medical technology, energy, among others, to rehabilitate them and enable them to expand their operations using the cloud computing.
C5 executive director Hadyah Fathalla said: “The MEET ICT Conference and BITEX Exhibition are in line with our strategic direction of contributing to creating a thriving ICT and cloud ecosystem in Bahrain and the region. Our Cloud10 Scalerator leads our effort in this regard and we are delighted with the outcome of the inaugural programme. We have seen a diverse and highly innovative group of disruptive young technology companies mature significantly through our tailored programme over the last three months. I believe there is every chance that you will see some of these companies becoming household names in the coming years.”
This will achieve C5’s goal of creating 300 outstanding technology firms in Europe and Mena region over the next four years, she said.
She pointed out that both the conference and the exhibition offer an opportunity for C5 to further highlight the Cloud 10 programme which, she said, aims to create a platform that allows exciting new disruptive technology companies to flourish, and provide the needed support for them.
